| | Top Customer Reviews Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Everything 80's that you could possible want! Comment: What more can I say? As an 80's fanatic, I think this is the definitive collection. It covers all the musical moods and has a couple of very hard to find songs on it. If you love the 80's, this is the item for you.
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Like, Sweet ! Comment: I'm really a suspect, cause I'm a die hard fan of the eighties music and everything related to it. TV, Movies, Toys. Sometimes they are so bizarre, sometimes gives us that warm feeling of remembering great times. I'm on my 30's now, so the 80's music was all I heard during my youth. Many customers will complain because there are great songs missing here (hey, ever had a hard time trying to make your own compilation tape years ago ? Add the music rights to that and we have a reasonable explanation for the missing bands) Many great songs are missing, but if you buy other 80's compilation albums you'll easily get them. And, to be sincere, who needs U2 to be in this compilation. If you love the 80's you MUST have thei own compilations, not to mention the other albums. As well as the Echo & the Bunnymen box, The B 52's, INXS, and many other available from Rhino, too. The point is, what will you get buying this box ? Many one hit wonders that will keep you remembering that time and asking yourself "Oh my GOd, this is the name of that song ? I love that !" What abou getting pearls like "PAcman Fever" "Greatest American Hero" and many others, so hard to find ? In addition to that you''l get many known great songs that'll love. It's not over. You'll also get a spectacular book full of pictures, movie lines, memorable moments, events and information of every single song. The 80's are here, definitely. If you get disappointed and ask for artists that are not here, try other albums, like the "Big 80's" ones. Let's not forget, this is the 80's CULTURE Box. And it delivers what it promises.
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Solid Collection of 80's feeling Comment: By far one of the most complete and satisfiying collections of the decade of excess I have ever seen and heard. Kudos to Rhino records for assembling such a well presented and thorough package. The amazing seven CD's come complete with a 91 page color book breaking down the decade chronologically with a timeline of eighties events, as well as descriptions and pictures of each and every of the 142 songs and their artists. The whole set comes in a fun and colorful box that reminds me of the old "trapper keepers" I would carry to school in the eighties, rubber clad and all! I must give the art directors at Rhino high marks for putting together such a great graphic presentation along with the music. As for the musical selections, you will NOT find here any big ticket names like Madonna, Whitney, Michael and Janet Jackson or George Michael, although they had large impacts on 80's music, this collection focuses on those catchy synthesized songs we all remember. After all, those mentioned above have extensive greatest hits packages on their own, and it is nice to see a box set that remembers all the other lesser known artists who contributed to the sound of the decade. Appropriately enough, the compliation seems heavy set on songs from 1983-1986 in particular, leaving much of the last three years of the decade to the final 7th disc. The addition of songs from some famous TV shows and films of the time also helps balance out the selections ranging from dance floor ready to power ballads. Like DVD's recent effects on film presentation, these 80's songs are presented in a digital format, making them sound even richer and more satisfying than you will remember them being. Every tweak and beep of the synthesizer and keyboards is now crystal clear. Ironic it would take modern technology to unlock the potential of music from 15 years ago. My old 45 single's never sounded so good. Worth every penny! Here's hoping a Rhino's 90's box is in the works...
